Is CMMC Level 1 really mandatory now?+
Yes. Since November 10, 2025, applicable DoD solicitations require a CMMC Level 1 self-assessment as a condition of award. That requirement is in force today and the annual affirmation clock is already running. On July 13, 2026, DoD suspended CMMC Phase 2 and opened a 60 day review of the program, so the third party assessment step is paused. What that pause removed is deadline pressure, not the requirement. Level 1 self-assessment, DFARS 252.204-7012, and your affirmation are unchanged, and a knowingly false affirmation still carries False Claims Act exposure.
How do I know it applies to my business?+
